Rory McIlroy is set to defend his title at the 2025 Hero Dubai Desert Classic, taking place at the iconic Emirates Golf Club from 16-19 January 2025. The World No.3 has officially confirmed his intentions to play, aiming to secure his third straight win and a record-breaking fifth Dallah Trophy.
Having already won in 2009, 2015, 2023, and 2024, McIlroy is poised to headline a top-tier field at this prestigious Rolex Series event, part of the 2025 Race to Dubai. And, with a whopping $9 million prize pool on the line, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
Fans will remember last year’s nail-biting finish when McIlroy surged from 10 shots back going into the weekend to a thrilling one-shot victory. After an incredible third-round 63, McIlroy turned a two-shot deficit into a four-shot lead on the final day — including birdies on the tough 8th and 9th holes — to secure him a fourth Dallah Trophy, surpassing Ernie Els’ previous record.
McIlroy shared his excitement: “I’m thrilled to be returning to the Emirates Golf Club. Winning a fifth title here would be something special, and it’s always an amazing way to start the year.”
Executive Tournament Director Simon Corkill added, “We’re delighted to have Rory back for what promises to be another incredible tournament. He’ll be up against a world-class lineup of competitors, and we can’t wait to see the action unfold.”
Established in 1989, the Hero Dubai Classic is the oldest golf tournament in the Middle East, and the key DP World Tour fixture continues to set the stage for some of the sport’s most moments. The 36th edition of the tournament will also mark its second consecutive year being GEO Certified®, having become the only tournament to do so in the Middle East and on the DP World Tour Rolex Series.
Fans can also look forward to the return of the popular ‘Vintage Best Dressed’ competition, where the best-dressed visitors will have an opportunity to claim incredible prizes — so be sure to dust off those retro golf styles.
Tickets are now available, and whether you’re after free general admission or premium hospitality packages, there’s something for everyone. For those looking for the ultimate experience, the exclusive Dallah Lounge offers prime views between the 9th and 18th greens, gourmet food, drinks, and access to the rooftop with breathtaking 360-degree views of Dubai. Early bird packages start at AED 1,800 (£375).
Fans are encouraged to act quickly to secure their spot at this highly anticipated event though, with hospitality packages selling out in record time in 2024.
